The strong growth in Indian single malt whisky sales signals increasing consumer demand for premium spirits in India, benefiting domestic producers and attracting investment from global companies. The market expansion may lead to higher revenues for Indian distillers and encourage further premiumisation in the alcoholic beverage industry.

According to data released by the Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC), Indian single malt whisky sales grew approximately 22% to about 5 lakh cases in 2025. Domestic brands such as Amrut, Rampur, Indri, and Paul John dominate the category with an estimated 92% market share, while foreign-owned brands like Diageo's Godawan and Pernod Ricard's Longitude 77 account for about 7%. The overall single malt market, including imports, reached around 8.5 lakh cases. The Indian Malt Whisky Association (IMWA) introduced a certification hologram to ensure quality standards. CIABC Director General Anant S. Iyer highlighted the premiumisation trend and the success of the Make in India initiative in the spirits sector.
