The price increases may dampen consumer demand for Pixel devices, potentially impacting Alphabet Inc.'s market share in the premium smartphone segment. However, the broader industry trend of rising memory costs could benefit memory manufacturers and AI infrastructure companies.
Alphabet Inc. has confirmed that its upcoming Pixel 11 series will see price increases due to a severe global memory shortage. Shakil Barkat, Alphabet Inc.'s Vice President of Devices and Services, stated that the cost of 1GB of RAM has surged from $2.80 in 2025 to $12 in 2026, a more than fourfold increase driven by AI data center demand for high-bandwidth memory. The entire Pixel family, including the Pixel Watch, will receive price adjustments, with leaked reports suggesting a $100 increase across models. Alphabet Inc. is also undertaking a dedicated effort to reduce Android's memory requirements to mitigate future cost impacts. The company will announce official pricing at its Made by Alphabet Inc. event on August 12. Other smartphone makers like Samsung Electronics, Apple, and Qualcomm have also raised prices due to similar component cost pressures.
