India-Indonesia BrahMos Astra missile deal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the recent India-Indonesia agreement on BrahMos and Astra missile systems during his 'Mann Ki Baat' radio address on July 26, 2026. The agreement, signed during Modi's visit to Indonesia from July 6-8, includes the supply of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles and ASTRA beyond-visual-range air-to-air missiles to Indonesia. Both countries also finalized a framework for maritime safety and security cooperation and agreed to enhance defense and maritime partnership. Modi noted that global confidence in India's defense equipment and technology is increasing. The deal is a boost for India's domestic defense industry, with the BrahMos missile jointly developed by India and Russia, and the Astra missile developed by DRDO. Additionally, Modi paid homage to Kargil Vijay Diwas and mentioned other defense milestones like the induction of INS Mahendragiri and the flight test of the Khusha Missile.
