On July 26, 2026, Vietnam produced its first domestically made aluminum ingots at the Dak Nong Aluminum Electrolysis Plant in Vietnam — Lâm Đồng province, completing the bauxite-alumina-aluminum value chain for the first time. The plant, invested by Tran Hong Quan Metallurgy Company with nearly US$1.07 billion, has an initial capacity of 150,000 tonnes per year, set to rise to 450,000 tonnes by Q1 2027. Deputy Prime Minister Phan Văn Giang attended the ceremony, calling it a historic milestone for Vietnam's metallurgical industry. The project is expected to reduce aluminum imports by about $1.5 billion annually and create thousands of jobs.
