Governor Sani rejected advice to sell at subsidized rates, arguing that N20,000 per bag is still unaffordable for smallholders and could be exploited by large-scale farmers. Agriculture contributes about 43% to Kaduna's GDP and employs 60-80% of the workforce. The state has increased its agriculture budget from N1.48 billion in 2023 to over N100 billion in 2026, exceeding the Malabo Declaration benchmark. The program includes investments in seeds, mechanization, irrigation, insurance, and rural roads. Kaduna is also implementing the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone with the African Development Bank and establishing the Africa Quality Assurance Centre under the African Continental Free Trade Area.
