Andrea Johnson resigns as IDAC head

Andrea Johnson, head of the South Africa — Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), resigned with immediate effect on 27 July 2026, after President Cyril Ramaphosa accepted her request. Johnson cited unprecedented attacks on her person and official capacity, primarily arising from IDAC's investigations into South Africa — Crime Intelligence officials. Her resignation followed intense scrutiny at the South Africa — Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, where she faced allegations of misconduct, including leaking a docket to Major General Feroz Khan. Johnson expressed concern that the controversy was damaging the reputation of IDAC and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), and that a costly inquiry into her fitness would be detrimental. She also noted South Africa's ongoing Financial Action Task Force scrutiny. Ramaphosa thanked Johnson for her service and assured continued government support for the NPA.
