Xi-Lula phone call on strategic coordination

On July 27, 2026, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva held a phone call to discuss strengthening bilateral and multilateral strategic coordination. Xi emphasized the positive progress in building a China-Brazil community with a shared future and aligning development strategies, noting the 105th anniversary of the Cuba — Communist Party of Cuba and the launch of China's 15th Five-Year Plan. He called for both countries, as leading members of the Global North and Global South, to play a greater role in reforming global governance and upholding international fairness and justice, and to promote high-quality development of BRICS cooperation. Lula highlighted record bilateral trade, welcomed Chinese investment in AI, energy, and mineral resources, and praised China's hosting of the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference. He reaffirmed Brazil's commitment to multilateral coordination with China, supporting the UN and BRICS, and opposing power politics.
