Fujitsu bids for UK contracts despite Horizon scandal

The UK Government continues to allow Fujitsu to bid for government contracts despite the ongoing Horizon scandal, in which hundreds of subpostmasters were wrongfully convicted due to faults in Fujitsu's Horizon IT system. Fujitsu had voluntarily paused new bids but is now seeking extensions and renewals with existing government customers, including a £61 million contract with HMRC for self-assessment tax returns. The Post Office extended its contract with Fujitsu to March 2027 but also awarded Accenture and OneView Commerce a contract to eventually replace Fujitsu. The Government has funded £1.5 billion in compensation, while Fujitsu has not yet paid directly. An inquiry chaired by Wyn Williams is ongoing.
