The acquisition strengthens Fanatics' position in the growing prediction market industry by giving it control over regulated infrastructure, potentially increasing competition and market depth. The partnership with BGC for data products may create new trading signals for institutional investors, while the move signals further convergence between sports, crypto, and traditional finance.
Fanatics, a global sports platform, has agreed to acquire Water Street Labs, a CFTC-registered Designated Contract Market, and CX Clearinghouse, a Derivatives Clearing Organization, from BGC Group. The deal gives Fanatics direct ownership of regulated exchange and clearing infrastructure for its prediction markets business, Fanatics Markets, which launched in December 2025. Financial terms were not disclosed. BGC will remain a strategic partner, providing institutional market infrastructure, liquidity, and market data. The companies plan to develop joint data products combining prediction market sentiment with traditional financial data. The acquisition positions Fanatics to compete directly with Kalshi and Polymarket in the regulated prediction market space. Fanatics Markets currently operates in 23 US states and four territories, offering contracts on sports, finance, and cultural events. The company plans to expand into additional categories including cryptocurrencies, stocks, and climate-related events.
