The Shariah certification and ADGM recognition could significantly expand XAU₮'s investor base into Islamic finance, a fast-growing sector. This may increase demand for tokenized gold, benefiting Tether and potentially influencing the broader market for real-world asset tokens.
Tether's gold-backed token XAU₮ received Shariah compliance certification from Amanah Advisors on July 27, 2026. The certification confirms that XAU₮ adheres to Islamic finance principles, including real asset backing, transparent reserves, and absence of interest (riba), leverage, and speculative derivatives. This approval opens access to Islamic financial markets, potentially expanding adoption in GCC countries, South Asia, Africa, and other regions with large Muslim populations. Additionally, Abu Dhabi Global Market recognized XAU₮ as an Accepted Spot Commodity on July 24, 2026. Tether has also partnered with Ledn for gold-backed loans and with Fasset for a Shariah-compliant gold-backed Visa card. The certification is expected to boost institutional adoption of tokenized gold.
