The securities class action lawsuits against Alibaba could lead to significant financial liabilities and reputational damage, potentially impacting its stock price and investor confidence. The allegations of being a Chinese military company and engaging in AI model theft may also affect Alibaba's business relationships and regulatory scrutiny in the U.S. and other markets.
Multiple U.S. law firms, including Levi & Korsinsky, Bronstein Gewirtz & Grossman, Rosen Law Firm, Glancy Prongay & Murray, Robbins LLP, Schall Brown & Schwartz, Kaplan Fox & Kilsheimer, Hagens Berman, and Pomerantz, have filed or announced securities class action lawsuits against Alibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE: BABA) on behalf of investors who purchased Alibaba securities between June 26, 2025 and June 24, 2026. The lawsuits allege that Alibaba made false and misleading statements and failed to disclose that it was directly or indirectly controlled by or affiliated with the Chinese China — Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), making it a Chinese military company under the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Additionally, the complaints allege that Alibaba engaged in ongoing distillation attacks against third-party AI models, including Anthropic's Claude, using fraudulent accounts. The allegations stem from two key events: on June 8, 2026, the U.S. Department of Defense added Alibaba to its list of Chinese military companies, causing its stock to drop 3.9% over two days; and on June 24, 2026, reports from Financial Times and Bloomberg L.P. detailed Anthropic's accusations that Alibaba illicitly accessed its AI models, causing further stock declines. Investors have until October 5, 2026, to seek lead plaintiff status. The class action seeks to recover losses for shareholders who were adversely affected by the alleged securities fraud.
