The Nigeria — Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) programme signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 28, 2026, in Abuja, Nigeria, to provide affordable electricity across SAPZ sites nationwide. The agreement, under REA's Desert to Power initiative, covers joint assessment, technical assistance, and energy deployment. Vice President Kashim Shettima, represented by Ibrahim Hadejia, praised the collaboration, stating it will transform agricultural productivity. Minister of Agriculture Abubakar Kyari highlighted the partnership's role in bridging infrastructure gaps. REA Managing Director Abba Aliyu noted the agency's track record of 424 completed mini-grid projects. The partnership targets 25,000 households, 13 health facilities, and over 103,000 direct beneficiaries per zone.
