US-UAE military AI task force

The United States and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to establish the first bilateral military artificial intelligence task force, named Task Force Talon Synapse. The initiative, announced by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), aims to accelerate the development and deployment of AI applications for military operations, including intelligence support, critical infrastructure protection, and regional security monitoring. The task force will be based in Abu Dhabi and consist of approximately 20 American and Emirati specialists in AI, data, and cybersecurity. The idea was discussed last year between CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper and UAE National Security Advisor Sheikh Tahnoun Al Nahyan. The UAE has positioned itself as a regional AI leader, with investments in AI infrastructure and partnerships with U.S. tech companies. The task force deepens US-UAE defense cooperation and frames American-developed AI systems as the security standard, countering Chinese technology. Separately, the U.S. Department of Commerce upgraded the UAE's export status in recognition of its defense support, and the UAE received its first shipment of Nvidia chips deemed essential for AI. The Pentagon has also been involved in AI-related disputes with Anthropic, which sued over a supply chain risk designation.
