The event signals growing employee activism in AI governance, which may increase regulatory pressure on AI companies. However, the impact is limited as the request is non-binding and the initiative is still in early stages.

More than 1,100 employees from leading tech firms including Meta Platforms, Anthropic, OpenAI, and Alphabet's Google on Tuesday urged the U.S. government to support an international effort to develop tools for managing the pace of advanced AI development. The initiative, called Pacing the Frontier, is supported by nonprofits Guidelight AI Standards and Encode AI. Signatories include Meta's vice president of AI research Dawn Song, Anthropic co-founders Jared Kaplan and Chris Olah, OpenAI Chief Scientist Jakub Pachocki, and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. OpenAI responded on X, acknowledging that future AI acceleration may require pacing. Separately, Nvidia formed a coalition with Adobe and CrowdStrike to develop AI safety and cybersecurity tools.
