INEC dismisses fake 2027 timetable

The Nigeria — Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed a viral graphic circulating on social media that falsely claimed the commission had revised the campaign timetable for the 2027 general elections in Nigeria. The graphic alleged that campaigns for presidential and National Assembly elections would end on January 15, 2027, instead of January 14, and that governorship and state assembly campaigns would end on February 5 instead of February 4. INEC's Chief Press Secretary, Adedayo Oketola, stated that the graphic did not originate from INEC and that the commission does not issue separate campaign timetables. He reiterated that all official campaign timelines are contained in the revised timetable released on February 26, 2026, which remains unchanged. INEC urged the media and public to verify electoral information through its official channels to combat misinformation.
