SML Mahindra Ltd, a listed subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), has approved the acquisition of M&M's Truck and Bus Division (MTBD) via a slump sale for ₹525 crore, subject to working capital adjustments. The transaction, expected to close by January 31, 2027, consolidates Mahindra Group's commercial vehicle operations under a single entity, spanning light, intermediate, and heavy commercial vehicles as well as buses. The move follows M&M's acquisition of a 58.97% stake in SML Mahindra (formerly SML Isuzu) from Sumitomo Corporation and Isuzu in August 2025. Post-acquisition, M&M will continue manufacturing Mahindra-branded trucks and buses under a contract manufacturing agreement. The combined entity aims to improve scale, market coverage, and operational efficiencies. SML Mahindra's shares surged 20% on the BSE following the announcement.
