Dyantyi appointed Western Cape police commissioner

Lieutenant General Sizakhele William Dyantyi has been appointed as the new Provincial Commissioner of the South Africa — South African Police Service (SAPS) in the South Africa — Western Cape, effective 1 August 2026. The announcement was made by Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, who emphasized the rigorous selection process. Dyantyi brings 34 years of policing experience, having served in various leadership roles including Station Commander, District Commissioner, and Provincial Head of Crime Prevention. He holds multiple academic qualifications. The appointment comes as the South Africa — Western Cape faces challenges including gang violence, organized crime, and illegal firearms. South Africa — Western Cape Premier Alan Winde and MEC Anroux Marais welcomed the appointment. Dyantyi succeeds Thembisile Patekile, who retired last month.
