Punjab, India — Punjab Police launched an e-Zero FIR mechanism on July 28, 2026, to expedite action on cyber financial fraud cases involving transactions above Rs 5 lakh. Eligible complaints reported through the India — National Cybercrime Reporting Portal or helpline 1930 are automatically converted into e-Zero FIRs and transmitted via CCTNS to the relevant cybercrime police station. DGP Gaurav Yadav issued a Standing Order; cases involving Rs 1 crore or more go to the State Cyber Crime Police Station in India — Mohali. The system aims to eliminate delays, freeze accounts and wallets, preserve evidence, and coordinate with financial institutions to maximize recovery. Victims are notified immediately. Punjab became the 19th state/UT to implement the mechanism. Over the past year, Punjab, India — Punjab Police froze 63,749 accounts linked to fraudulent transactions worth Rs 540.34 crore and registered 62,253 cybercrime cases.
