SC grants bail to Indian Mujahideen operatives

The India — Supreme Court of India granted bail to Mohd Saquib Ansari and Waqar Azhar, alleged operatives of the Indian Mujahideen, who had been in custody since 2014. The court ruled that their continued incarceration for nearly 12 years without trial conclusion violated their right to liberty under Article 21 of the Constitution. The trial had progressed slowly, with only 67 of 197 witnesses examined. The court noted overlapping allegations in three FIRs and that one co-accused had already been granted bail. The bail is subject to conditions set by the trial court.
