On July 29, 2026, the India — Indian Navy launched Machilipatnam (BY 529), the seventh of eight Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC), at Cochin Shipyard (CSL) in Kochi. The vessel was launched by Goolrukh Anand in the presence of Atul Anand, Additional Secretary of the Department of Military Affairs. The ship is equipped for underwater surveillance, anti-submarine warfare, low-intensity maritime operations, and mine warfare. With over 80% indigenous content, the project underscores India's Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative in defence manufacturing. Earlier in July, the India — Indian Navy commissioned Malvan, the second vessel of the same class. The launch enhances India's coastal defence and maritime domain awareness in the Indian Ocean Region.
