This regulatory action may improve the efficiency of TETFund's infrastructure spending in Nigerian tertiary education, potentially reducing waste. However, it could temporarily slow new project approvals, affecting construction and related industries.
The Board of Trustees of the Nigeria — Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has barred beneficiary institutions with uncompleted or delayed TETFund-sponsored projects from accessing new intervention projects in the 2027 allocation cycle. Chairman Aminu Bello Masari announced the decision, citing persistent delays in project execution due to lack of continuity in institutional leadership, internal bureaucracy, and payment processing delays. Institutions must compile lists of overdue projects, prioritize their completion, and strengthen supervision. Monitoring teams will conduct inspections in August and September 2026.
