A study published in Neurology on July 29, 2026, analyzed data from 64,737 UK Biobank participants born before and after World War II sugar rationing in the United Kingdom. Researchers found that individuals who experienced sugar rationing before birth and up to age two had a 23% lower risk of developing dementia later in life, and dementia onset was delayed by an average of 2.6 years.
