United States — United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is seeking a $470,584 civil fine against New York immigration attorney Suraj Raj Singh, accusing him of filing 118 fraudulent documents in 54 asylum cases. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) alleges that the asylum declarations were identical or nearly identical in language and substance. This is the second such action under the Trump administration, following a similar fine against attorney Vinod Doddamani. DHS General Counsel James Percival stated the administration will hold attorneys accountable for defrauding the immigration system. The fine is the maximum allowed under 8 U.S.C. § 1324c(d). Singh has the opportunity to respond before the penalty becomes final.
