The India — Ministry of External Affairs appointed advocate G. V. Ravishankar as Special Public Prosecutor to conduct the trial in a India — National Investigation Agency case related to an alleged Sri Lankan drug mafia syndicate involved in narcotics and arms trafficking, and cryptocurrency networks aimed at reviving the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in India and Sri Lanka. The appointment is for three years or until trial completion. The NIA took over the case in July 2022, alleging that the syndicate, controlled by C. Gunashekharan and Suman Pushparajah in association with Pakistan-based Haji Salim, operates in Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka.
