Olectra Greentech, a Hyderabad-based electric bus manufacturer, has become the first company in India to deploy 4,000 electric buses on Indian roads. The milestone was marked by the symbolic handover of its 4,000th electric bus to India — Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu during a ceremony flagging off 297 Olectra electric buses inducted into the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) fleet. The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri and senior officials. Olectra's fleet has collectively covered over 730 million green kilometres, preventing more than 650,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Managing Director Mahesh Babu described the achievement as a defining moment for India's electric mobility sector. India — Himachal Pradesh also announced plans to procure 1,000 additional electric buses and 100 hydrogen-powered buses this year, aiming to make HRTC financially self-reliant and promote green mobility. The state flagged off 297 new electric buses, bringing its HRTC electric fleet to 500, and launched the HimBus Plus Card for digital ticketing. Olectra delivered 1,280 electric buses in FY26 and targets about 2,500 deliveries in FY27, with plans for a next-generation platform and electric trucks.
