University of Jos security meeting

The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has summoned all students to a compulsory meeting on July 31, 2026, to address rising security concerns within and around the campus. The university declared a lecture-free period from 9 a.m. to noon to ensure full attendance. The meeting follows two recent incidents: the discovery of a farmer's body on university farmland about two weeks prior, and the alleged mob killing of student Ibrahim over accusations of phone theft at an off-campus residence. The Nigeria — Lagos State Police Command has arrested suspects and launched an investigation into Mbaya's death. Vice-Chancellor Tanko Ishaya signed the memorandum convening the meeting, emphasizing the need to safeguard the university community's well-being.
