LinkedIn, the Microsoft-owned professional networking platform, has introduced a new feature allowing users to flag posts that 'seem like AI slop' - low-quality, AI-generated content. The button appears in the menu when clicking the three dots on a post. Chief Product Officer Hari Srinivasan announced the move on Thursday, stating that AI slop is a top priority and that the company is investing in automation defenses, blocking 'hundreds of thousands' of automated comment attempts daily and 'billions' of automation attempts in recent months. LinkedIn is also introducing new classifiers to identify AI slop and will privately notify users when their content is perceived as inauthentic. The company is removing its 'enhance your post' AI feature and replacing it with a proofreading tool. This comes amid reports that a significant portion of LinkedIn posts are AI-generated, with Pangram estimating 41% of long posts and 30% of shorter posts are AI-generated. Other platforms like Substack and ByteDance — TikTok Shop are also taking steps to address AI content. LinkedIn's move reflects a broader industry trend to combat AI-generated content and maintain authenticity.
