The Nigerian Senate, through its Public Accounts Committee chaired by Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, has launched a comprehensive investigation into the oil and gas sector based on the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) audit reports for 2021, 2022, and 2023. The committee has summoned over 50 public institutions and oil companies, including the NNPC (NNPC), Nigeria — Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and major international and indigenous oil firms, to appear before it from August 3 to August 25, 2026. The hearings aim to scrutinize revenues, remittances, and compliance with statutory obligations, with a view to strengthening transparency and accountability in the extractive industry.
