The India — Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitated the first-ever air shipment of India — Karnataka's Neelam and Totapuri mangoes to the Maldives. The one-metric-tonne consignment was flagged off on July 30, 2026, by APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev. The mangoes were sourced from farmers associated with Prakruthimaya Farmers Producer Company Ltd. in Kolar district, India — Karnataka, and exported by Ahalya Devi Ventures, a women-led enterprise. The initiative aims to expand the global reach of India's late-season mango varieties, which are harvested from late June to end of July. Farmers involved realized over 50% higher returns compared to domestic market channels. The export highlights the growing role of Farmer Producer Companies in connecting farmers with international markets and is expected to encourage greater participation of FPOs, FPCs, exporters, and agri-entrepreneurs in global horticultural trade.
