Cambodia-Thailand border displacement crisis

A UN expert reported that more than 20,000 Cambodian civilians remain displaced along the border with Thailand following two rounds of fighting in 2025. Approximately 650,000 were displaced at the end of last year, with some towns and villages occupied by Thai troops. Thailand denies illegal occupation, citing a bilateral ceasefire agreement. Border crossings remain closed, deeply impacting Cambodia's economy and border communities reliant on agricultural trade. The UN expert also highlighted a 'cyberscam crisis' in Cambodia, noting that authorities have closed over 600 scam locations, revoked or suspended licenses of 29 casinos, and about 3,000 scam operators face criminal proceedings, but senior officials linked to scams have not been acted against.
