The MoU is expected to spur innovation and digital transformation in India's traditional medicine sector, potentially benefiting companies and startups in healthcare AI and traditional medicine. While the direct financial impact is limited due to no financial commitment, the initiative could enhance research capabilities and create new opportunities in the AI healthcare market.
On July 31, 2026, the India — Ministry of Ayush and India — IndiaAI Mission, an initiative under the India — Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate the adoption of Artificial Intelligence across India's traditional medicine ecosystem. The agreement was executed by Sudeep Srivastava, COO of India — IndiaAI Mission Mission and Joint Secretary at MeitY, and Kavita Jain, Joint Secretary and Chief Vigilance Officer at the India — Ministry of Ayush. Under the partnership, the India — Ministry of Ayush will onboard AIKosh, the national sovereign AI repository, and share eligible anonymised health research artefacts including datasets, metadata, AI models, toolkits, and use cases. This integration aims to assist researchers, startups, and academic institutions in building healthcare solutions while following regulatory norms. The collaboration also provides AYUSH stakeholders access to India's AI computing infrastructure through the India — IndiaAI Mission Compute ecosystem at subsidised rates. The MoU is set for an initial duration of two years with an automatic renewal clause and carries no financial commitment or liability for either ministry. Officials highlighted the potential to enrich AIKosh with traditional healthcare datasets and empower researchers and practitioners through AI-enabled innovation. Naman Goyal of Ayush Grid noted the development of AI-driven platforms under its Emerging Technologies component. The partnership marks a step towards building a technology-enabled Ayush ecosystem by combining traditional knowledge with modern AI capabilities.
