The study analyzed 13 common AQP4 variants and found that the effects of sleep on grey matter loss and cognitive performance varied depending on the genetic variant. The findings suggest that personalized prevention strategies considering both genetics and sleep habits may be more effective than a one-size-fits-all approach. They emphasized that the findings need replication in larger and more diverse cohorts and that they are not yet recommending genetic testing.
