Nigeria Police Deploy Etaifo for Osun Election

Ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Nigeria — Osun State, the Nigeria — Nigeria Police Force deployed Commissioner of Police Samuel Erale as CP Elections to coordinate election security. The deployment, approved by Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aims to ensure a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process. Etaifo will work with other security agencies and stakeholders to enforce the Electoral Act and the Code of Conduct for Security Personnel on Electoral Duty. The police also barred Amotekun, vigilante groups, and other quasi-security outfits from participating in election security, allowing only constitutionally recognized agencies. The substantive Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Ghosn, remains in charge of the Nigeria — Osun State Command, providing support to Etaifo. The police emphasized professionalism, neutrality, and warned against electoral violence, vote-buying, and intimidation. This follows recent tensions between the Nigeria — Osun State Government and police over the arrest and release of Teslim Igbalaye, the Secretary to the State Government.
