Obidient leaders defect to APC

On Friday, former Deputy Campaign Manager for the Obi/Datti Presidential Campaign, Isaac Balami, led a delegation of Nigeria — Peter Obi leaders and professionals to a meeting with Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, in Abuja. At the meeting, they declared their support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections and pledged to mobilize 12 million votes for him. Balami, who had joined the Nigeria — All Progressives Congress (APC) after the 2023 elections, cited a lack of purposeful leadership in the Labour Party. The delegation included leaders from the Middle Belt, North-Central support groups, social media influencers, representatives of about 100 support groups, professional associations, journalists, religious leaders, and Igbo Obidient figures. They alleged neglect and unfair treatment within the Nigeria — Peter Obi and expressed their commitment to the APC. Seyi Tinubu welcomed them into the APC and the Renewed Hope Movement, highlighting achievements of the Tinubu administration such as infrastructure development, the Nigeria — Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), economic reforms, removal of fuel subsidy, and the new national minimum wage.
