The record UPI transaction volumes and values signal robust growth in India's digital payments sector, likely boosting investor confidence in fintech companies and payment infrastructure providers. This growth may also support the broader financial inclusion agenda and enhance India's standing in global digital payments, potentially attracting further investment.
In July 2026, India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) achieved a record high in transaction value of Rs 29.88 lakh crore, up 19% year-on-year from Rs 25.08 lakh crore in July 2025. Transaction volumes reached 23.66 billion, surpassing the previous high of 23.2 billion in May 2026 and June's 22.72 billion. The data was released by the India — National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), an umbrella organization for retail payments in India, set up by the State Bank of India (RBI) and the Indian Banks Association (IBA). PayNearby MD and CEO Anand Kumar Bajaj commented on UPI's role in strengthening India's digital payments ecosystem and emphasized the need to build trust and awareness for financial inclusion. UPI is now operational in about ten countries, including the UAE, Singapore, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, France, Mauritius, and Qatar, boosting remittances and financial inclusion, and strengthening India's position in the global fintech landscape.
