The arrests are linked to the June 26, 2026 kidnapping of a victim at Divine Heritage Lodge in Ukwulu, Dunukofia Local Government Area, where a ransom of 30 million naira was demanded and 15 million naira was reportedly paid after negotiations. The victim was released after four days in captivity. Preliminary investigations indicate the gang relocated from armed bandit enclaves in the North-West and established operations in parts of the South-East.
