The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to order a comprehensive investigation into allegations that more than N6.79 billion in public funds were diverted or misapplied within the Nigeria — Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria — Ministry of Police Affairs. The allegations are contained in the Nigeria — Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation's 2022 Annual Report, published on September 9, 2025. SERAP's letter, dated August 1, 2026, urges Tinubu to direct the Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi, the Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and anti-corruption agencies to investigate and prosecute those responsible. The report documents payments for unexecuted projects, abandoned contracts, inflated costs, irregular procurement, unretired cash advances, unsettled insurance claims, and missing firearms and ammunition. Specific findings include N499.9 million paid for an unexecuted Police College Phase II, over N1.9 billion for abandoned projects, 42 missing firearms, and N438 million in contracts awarded without due diligence. SERAP has given the Federal Government seven days to act or face legal action, citing constitutional provisions requiring the abolition of corruption and the security and welfare of the people.
