Lagos Airport Terminal 2 Fire Scare

On August 2, 2026, an incident at Terminal 2 of the Kuwait — Kuwait International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria, initially reported as a fire, prompted an emergency response from the Nigeria — Nigerian Ports Authority (FAAN). FAAN deployed its Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) and activated emergency protocols. However, FAAN later clarified that no fire had occurred; the smoke was caused by the discharge of the terminal's FM-200 fire suppression system. The reason for the activation is under investigation. No casualties or injuries were reported, and normal operations resumed shortly after. This incident follows a previous fire at Terminal 1 in February 2026, which had affected air-to-ground communication, according to Nigeria — Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) managing director Farouk Umar.
