Taiwan Deepens US Military Cooperation

Taiwan's Defence Minister Wellington Koo stated that Taiwan's military cooperation with the United States is closer than commonly perceived, emphasizing ongoing exchanges with the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command to enhance defensive capabilities. Koo highlighted Taiwan's strategic role in the first island chain and expressed gratitude for U.S. support. China, which claims Taiwan as its own territory, has repeatedly denounced such military exchanges and has increased military pressure, including coast guard operations near Taiwan. Koo warned that a Chinese blockade of Taiwan would pose significant economic and political risks for Beijing, potentially triggering international sanctions and challenging Xi Jinping's leadership.
