The push to double bilateral trade could boost cross-border investment flows and benefit companies in sectors like mining, pharma, and textiles. However, the immediate market impact is limited as the initiative is at the promotional stage.
At the India-Uzbekistan Business Forum in New Delhi on August 3, 2026, Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal called for doubling bilateral trade between India and Uzbekistan within three years. He invited businesses from both countries to co-invest, co-manufacture, and co-innovate, highlighting opportunities in mining, textiles, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, agriculture, food processing, IT, and digital economy. Goyal referenced the recently concluded Bilateral Investment Treaty to boost investor confidence and suggested exploring a free trade agreement. Uzbek Minister Laziz Kudratov noted that current trade of about $1.5 billion is far below potential and sought Indian investments in steel, pharma, healthcare, mining, and auto. About 400 Indian companies operate in Uzbekistan. Both ministers emphasized removing trade barriers, mutual recognition of standards, and digitizing customs.
