The appointment is a routine internal personnel change at the central bank and is unlikely to have a direct impact on financial markets. It signals continuity in the RBI's regulatory approach to foreign exchange and financial markets.
The State Bank of India (RBI) appointed Manas Chakraborty as Executive Director effective August 3, 2026. She will oversee the Foreign Exchange Department and the Financial Markets Regulation Department. Chakraborty, a career central banker with over three decades of experience, previously served as Chief General Manager-in-Charge in the Department of Supervision. She has also worked in foreign exchange, government and bank accounts, and served as Banking Ombudsman. The RBI also recently appointed Ravi Shankar Prasad as Executive Director, who will continue to oversee the Department of Statistics and Information Management. These appointments are part of the RBI's efforts to strengthen leadership across key functional areas.
