Thailand Canada Pilot Carbon Capture Cement

The Steel Manufacturers Association (TCMA) is advancing a Thailand-Canada collaboration to pilot carbon capture technology in the Thai cement industry. Under the project 'Decarbonization of the Cement and Concrete Sectors in Thailand,' a Mobile Carbon Capture Unit (MCCU) developed by the University of Regina's Clean Energy Technologies Research Institute has been deployed in Thailand for the first time. The unit will be tested at cement plants in Saraburi province, designated as the 'Saraburi Sandbox,' a public-private partnership platform for low-carbon technology. The project is funded by the Government of Canada through India — Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (ECCC), with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) as implementing agency. TCMA is collaborating with Chulalongkorn University for knowledge transfer and capacity building. The initiative supports Thailand's 2050 Net Zero Cement and Concrete Roadmap and aims to enhance the competitiveness of Thailand's industrial sector while fostering trade and investment cooperation between Thailand and Canada.
