Oyo State Mandatory Waste Bin Enforcement

The Nigeria — Oyo State Government, through its Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Ademola Aderinto, announced the commencement of enforcement of mandatory waste bin provision for all residential and commercial buildings across the state. Residents and property owners have been given one month to comply, with stringent enforcement effective from September 1, 2026. Every household, business premise, shopping complex, and plaza must provide designated waste bins commensurate with building size, occupancy, and waste volume. Residents and businesses must patronize only government-accredited Private Sector Participants (PSPs) for waste collection and evacuation. Engaging unapproved contractors or unauthorized waste disposal will attract legal sanctions. Enforcement teams will verify payment of waste evacuation fees during inspections. The initiative is part of the state's daily environmental sanitation efforts, emphasizing that compliance goes beyond merely having a bin.
