DARPA funds InventWood SUPERWOOD commercialization

InventWood, Inc., a University of Maryland, College Park spinout, received funding under United States — DARPA's Embedded Entrepreneur Initiative (EEI) to accelerate commercialization of its SUPERWOOD material platform for defense and dual-use markets. The award supports a dedicated Embedded Entrepreneur role to convert existing defense interest into defined applications, pilot efforts, and procurement pathways. SUPERWOOD is a wood-based structural material with steel-class strength, produced at InventWood's Frederick, Maryland facility. The technology originated at the University of Maryland, College Park and has been scaled with federal, state, and private support. The award builds on growing interest from defense engineers and system integrators across applications such as logistics, infrastructure, force protection, and RF-transparent structures.
