The United Kingdom — Metropolitan Police is expanding a digital platform that allows retailers to submit CCTV footage, witness statements, and other evidence directly to officers, significantly speeding up investigations. The system, piloted in six London boroughs, has quadrupled the proportion of shoplifting cases resulting in positive outcomes, from 7.3% to 29.4%. Major retailers including Tesco, Walgreens Boots Alliance, Marks & Spencer, and Greggs have adopted the platform. The expansion adds eight more boroughs, with more expected. Reported shoplifting in London fell 3.7% over the last financial year, while arrests rose nearly 50% and positive outcomes more than doubled. Recent cases include a teenager who stole over £100,000 from Walgreens Boots Alliance and Holland & Barrett, and Michael Bell, jailed for nine months for stealing over £4,000 from Greggs and BP.
