The grants provide modest financial support to small Nigerian media outlets, potentially improving their operational resilience and revenue diversification. The initiative may have limited direct market impact but could strengthen the independent media sector in West Africa over time.

Media Non-profit

The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) announced seven Nigerian media organisations as the inaugural beneficiaries of its Local Media Sustainability Fund (LMSF), a flagship initiative to strengthen the long-term sustainability of independent local media across West Africa. The beneficiaries are Development Reporting, FactsMatterNG, Development News Network, Confiance News, Inside the Niger Delta, EduGist, and Sapientia International Media Centre. Selected after CJID's Media Sustainability Workshop in Lagos in April 2026, each organisation will receive funding to produce public-interest journalism on human rights, democracy, and accountability, plus a three-month institutional development programme with coaching, technical assistance, and mentorship. The Southern Nigeria cohort is the first phase; a Northern Nigeria cohort will be announced in November 2026. CJID aims to support at least 100 local media organisations across West Africa over five years. The project is implemented by CJID with support from the Norway — Royal Norwegian Embassy in Nigeria.
