Digital Science launches Papers AI workspace

On August 4, 2026, Digital Science launched Papers AI, an AI-native research workspace designed to support the entire research workflow in a single project. Built by the team behind Overleaf, Papers AI integrates writing, data analysis, project management, and collaboration, supporting Word, Markdown, Typst, and LaTeX documents alongside Jupyter notebooks, CSV files, and Kanban boards. The platform features a context-aware AI assistant that reads drafts, datasets, and references together, reducing the need for researchers to re-upload files or re-explain their work. AI-suggested changes are presented as reviewable edits, ensuring researchers retain control. Privacy is emphasized: data is not used to train models, and users can operate the tool entirely locally. The launch reflects a broader trend toward workflow-aware scientific software. Digital Science's Chief Product Officer Amye Kenall and Principal AI Scientist Juan Castro highlighted the tool's ability to reduce time lost between tools and to provide project-wide context.
