Lakurawa militants attack Sokoto community

On Monday, suspected Lakulisha militants attacked Girkau community in Kebbe Local Government Area of Nigeria — Sokoto State, Nigeria. The attackers opened fire on security personnel and villagers, killing a police officer and two civilians, injuring several others, burning two security vehicles, and rustling cattle. The Nigeria — Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the attack, stating that operatives responded to a distress call and repelled the attackers after a gun battle. Police spokesperson Ahmed Rufai confirmed the death of one officer and the destruction of two vehicles. Residents identified the dead as police officer Hussaini Magaji, elderly resident Bala Wakili, and a young herder. A farmer was reportedly injured, and a married woman was allegedly assaulted. Residents have appealed to the federal and state governments to strengthen security in the area.
