The launch of Voice of India could influence AI adoption and procurement decisions in India, potentially benefiting AI developers and enterprises by providing independent benchmarks. It may also position India as a leader in AI evaluation infrastructure, attracting investment and shaping global AI standards.

Artificial Intelligence Banking Technology

AI4Bharat, an initiative of IIT Madras, and Josh Talks launched Voice of India, an independent multimodal AI evaluation platform, on August 4, 2026. The platform aims to assess AI systems across Indian languages, accents, dialects, and real-world deployment conditions, addressing the lack of independent evaluation infrastructure in India. It provides scientifically rigorous, India-specific benchmarks covering voice AI, large language models, document processing, safety and cultural evaluation, and Indian legal reasoning. The launch introduced a finance-focused benchmark for banking workflows. The platform uses a three-stage evaluation framework: constituent model evaluation, end-to-end deployment evaluation, and periodic post-deployment audits. It is designed to serve governments, enterprises, researchers, and AI developers, enabling informed deployment decisions. The initiative was launched in New Delhi in the presence of Ajit Krishnan, Secretary of the India — Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Key figures Mitesh Khapra, Supriya Sule, and Shobhit Banga emphasized the importance of independent evaluation for trustworthy AI.
