Apple iPhone-Windows copy-paste interoperability

Apple has agreed to develop a cross-device copy and paste feature between IPhone and Microsoft Windows PCs, following an interoperability request from Microsoft under the European Union's Digital Markets Act. Microsoft submitted the request in March 2026, seeking persistent clipboard access to enable seamless content transfer between IPhones and Microsoft Windows PCs. Apple evaluated the request and, on June 26, 2026, confirmed it would build a solution using its AccessorySetupKit framework, similar to the Accessory Notifications feature introduced in IOS 26.5. The feature will require one-time user consent per paired device. Apple described the project as a significant engineering effort, with development expected to complete by fall 2027, followed by a developer beta and public release likely in early 2028. The feature may initially be limited to the European Union, though Apple could extend it globally. This development highlights the ongoing impact of the DMA on Apple's platform interoperability obligations.
